Test equipment

The IFR 1200S is the bench instrument for practical radio checks: carrier frequency, RF power, deviation/modulation, receiver response, and quick go/no-go tests. Notes should identify the radio, test cable path, attenuation, operating mode, and any service-monitor settings that affect the result.

The MS2711D is useful when a portable or quick-look spectrum view is more convenient than the larger bench gear. Typical notes here should capture span, RBW/VBW, reference level, attenuation, preamp state, and any external attenuation used to protect the input.

The 85046A belongs with the 8753A/8753C measurement chain. Notes here should keep port condition, connector care, calibration plane, adapter choices, and two-port setup details close to the VNA measurements that depend on it.

The 8753A and 8753C share a single bench reference entry because they fill the same VNA role. Measurement notes should identify which unit was used, the calibration plane, sweep range, IF bandwidth, source power, averaging, fixture or adapter chain, and whether the HP 85046A test set was part of the setup.

The S331L is the first stop for checking antennas, jumpers, feedlines, and unknown RF paths before they are connected to more sensitive equipment. Measurements are most useful when the calibration plane, adapter stack, frequency span, and cable-under-test are recorded together.

The Fluke 396 is useful for repeatable low-frequency stimulus when testing audio paths, modulation inputs, filters, and trigger behavior. Record waveform shape, amplitude, offset, termination, and coupling whenever the setup is part of a repeatable measurement.

The PM5193 fits work where a stable function generator setup matters more than RF output. Keep common presets, termination assumptions, output-level conventions, and sweep setups here so audio and baseband measurements can be reproduced.

The 8614A is a general RF source in the lab signal-source lineup. Useful notes include frequency setting, output level, any external attenuation, modulation state, and the measurement instrument used to verify the source.

The 8620A is the bench sweep-source platform, and this unit is paired with the 86230B plug-in. Measurement notes should capture the sweep range, leveling arrangement, output path, external attenuation, and the analyzer or detector used to observe the sweep.

The 8643A is a good choice when repeatability and frequency stability matter. Keep output level, modulation state, reference-clock configuration, attenuation, and receiver-under-test conditions together in each setup note.

The 8657B is a practical source for radio and receiver work where known RF level and modulation settings matter. Measurement notes should capture frequency, level, modulation, attenuation, cabling, and the instrument used to verify the output.

The 5340A is useful for direct frequency checks where a counter reading is easier to trust than a display marker. Notes should preserve reference-clock setup, input path, expected signal level, and any prescaler or coupling behavior observed during measurements.

The 5347A is helpful when frequency and level need to be checked as part of the same setup. Keep the input path, sensor or detector arrangement, external attenuation, reference-clock state, and safe input-level assumptions with each measurement note.

The E4418B is the preferred instrument when an RF level needs to be measured with a power sensor instead of estimated from a spectrum analyzer display. Keep sensor pairings, zero/cal habits, attenuator chains, and uncertainty observations with this entry so future measurements can be compared against the same reference path.

The 1083A is the lab reference point for time and frequency discipline. Notes should capture which instruments are locked to it, the reference output path, antenna or GPS status, distribution details, and any observed lock or holdover behavior during measurements.

The TDS 2012B is a straightforward scope for quick waveform captures and bench troubleshooting. Notes should capture probe type, attenuation setting, coupling, timebase, trigger source, and whether the signal was measured into a defined termination.

The TDS 460A is useful when a deeper oscilloscope setup or different capture behavior is helpful. Keep probe choice, coupling, termination, trigger mode, acquisition mode, and any storage/export steps with the measurement note.
